Rules – Preparing for North Korea Trip -【DPRK】🇰🇵

Hey, I m going to Korea again. Well.. the North one this time.!

Processed with VSCO with fp4 preset

During works, I always try to squeeze in some time to travel. Accidently, I will have a gap week – 9 days free. Turkey, Russia and Egypt are the top 3 countries on my wish list . However, those places definitely need more than 9 days.

One night I was in the karaoke with friends, and a song called Strangler in the North (飄向北方) from LeeHom was playing.  How about Beijing ? I do miss my friend there. After talking to him, I booked the ticket right away.

Wait…9 days in Beijing!? I opened the Google Maps again. Lol.
From the map, I saw a country I always wanna go and take a look – DPRK, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Why North Korea ?

I read a novel called Without You, There is No Us: My Time with the Sons of North Korea’s(당신이없으면우리도없고)  last year. The author accepted an English teaching job in North Korea. The novel is all about what she saw and experienced there. In Taiwan, most of the news I read about North Korea are scary and horrible. However, how about people there? Are they that bad or unhappy as what news said? After reading this book, I really wonder and wanna know more.

How to go to North Korea?

For visa purposes, you have to go through a travel agency. The cheapest and easiest way is to go with Chinese travel agencies. All of them depart from Beijing or Dandong(丹東). Dandong is the largest boarder city in China., facing North Korea across the Yalu River.

From Beijing, you can take the flight directly to Pyongyang. Or, what I chose, is to take the train.

Train K27 : Beijing →Dandong → Pyongyang (at 17:27 every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday)
Train K28 : Pyongyang → Dandong →Beijing (at 10:10 every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday)

However, from Beijing to Pyongyang, by train will take around 22hrs.  If you don’t want to have a flat ass, choose the flight or depart from Dandong directly.
